The immune system is a really important part in the human body. It does a great job of keeping people healthy and preventing infections. Problems with the immune system can lead to illness and infection. Through a series of steps called the immune response, the immune system attacks organisms and substances that invade body systems and cause disease. You can study the parts of the system shown in the illustration provided in each of the following Immune System Diagram below.
One of the important cells involved in the immune system are white blood cells, also called leukocytes, which come in two basic types that combine to seek out and destroy disease-causing organisms or substances. Leukocytes are produced or stored in many locations in the body, including the thymus, spleen, and bone marrow. The leukocytes circulate through the body between the organs and nodes via lymphatic vessels and blood vessels.
The immune system consists of several different systems and cell types work in perfect synchrony (most of the time) throughout the body to fight off pathogens and clear up dead cells. This diagram pack serves as a helpful way to learn the immune system. From the diagrams above, you can save and print all of the diagrams!
